These are discussion guides for the Mueller Bible study group.
Matthew 17:14-27

This passages begins with Jesus and the disciples return from the transfiguration. We see that a child was brought to the other nine for healing/exorcism, but they had been unsuccessful.
In the next passage, Jesus teaches and demonstrates both his exemption from the temple tax, and how he and his disciples should deal with it.
Matthew 16:21-17:13

The two passages we will discuss here fit together to teach us about the Son of Man’s kingdom. It is easy to treat the chapter break as a separation between the events, but the events described fit directly together.
It certainly appears that Jesus’ takes three disciples to see something of his glory, as indicated in 16:27,28.

In chapter 16 we see another conflict between Jesus and the Pharisees, Peter’s great confession, and Jesus frankly explaining his coming conflict.
This section tracks Mark 8:11 and Luke 12. From these passages we see that Jesus returns to Jerusalem where he experiences the conflict with the Pharisees.
